Manchester City delivered a dominant performance at the Etihad, sweeping Manchester United aside 3-0 to strengthen their position at the top of the Women’s Super League. Goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp sealed a statement win for Andrée Jeglertz’s team, who now sit four points clear at the summit.
United, meanwhile, suffered back-to-back league defeats for the first time since 2024, struggling with fatigue after their historic Champions League win over PSG. Manager Marc Skinner admitted his side had “given City those goals” and stressed the need for reinforcements in the winter window.
City were ruthless in the first half, scoring three goals in 21 minutes against what had been the WSL’s second-best defence. Hemp tormented United on the wing, setting the tone early before Knaak headed City into the lead. Shaw doubled the advantage from close range, and Hemp added a long-range strike after a quick turnover.
United failed to register a shot on target, with Jess Park hitting the post in their only meaningful threat. City continued to control the game and could have added a fourth through Shaw late on.
Having already beaten Arsenal this season, City’s win over United further underlines their title credentials as they look to maintain their strong start through nine matches.
