Ruben Amorim admitted his frustration after Manchester United let a winning position slip in a chaotic 2-2 draw against Tottenham, accusing his players of becoming “too comfortable” during the game.
United led for much of the night after Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half opener but were pegged back by goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison before Matthijs de Ligt rescued a point deep into stoppage time. Despite extending their unbeaten run to five matches, Amorim was left dissatisfied with the performance.
“We were comfortable in the game but I think we should do better, be more aggressive,” Amorim said. “We need to feel the environment and that the three points were there. We felt too comfortable — one play can change everything, and today it did.”
The manager also expressed concern over a potential knee injury to Benjamin Šeško, who came off in the second half, saying the club would assess the issue.
Spurs boss Thomas Frank, meanwhile, defended his substitutions after home fans initially booed the decision to replace Xavi Simons with Tel — a move that paid off when the youngster equalised minutes later.
“Sometimes you’re lucky,” Frank said. “But every time I make a change it’s to win the game — and Tel did very well.”
Although Spurs are still without a home league win since August, Frank insisted the performance showed progress:
“We’re close. The way we turned it around, I’m very happy with that. Against a good United team, that’s a step forward.”
